Barefoot Mosquito Expanding to Houston and Dallas

Barefoot Mosquito Control is pleased to announce the expansion of its operations to the Houston and Dallas areas for 2015. Building upon its success in Austin, the company performed extensive testing in the new areas in 2014 that demonstrated mosquito control levels approaching 95% sustained for a 21 day period of time.

Behind The Expansion of Barefoot Mosquito & Pest Control in Texas

Joseph Barclay, the company’s co-founder, explained the company’s extensive preparation prior to expansion, “Houston has always been an area with high mosquito populations. The challenge Houston presents is that they also have over 50 different types of mosquitoes, some with the ability to travel great distances from their harborages to seek blood meal. We needed to be sure that the Barefoot Method could work just as effectively in such a challenging area before expansion could take place.” The weather was also a consideration, “Houston also experiences high humidity, which not only encourages mosquito development, but also shortens the lifespan of products used to combat mosquitos. Fortunately, our product’s water-repellant nature was designed to stand up to the harsh humidity and frequent rain. I won’t say we were surprised by the excellent results, but it just solidified our strong belief in the staying power of our product.”

Dallas, once an area that experienced only localized mosquito infestations, has seen its mosquito problem increase over the past decade and become widespread throughout the greater metropolitan area. Jason Revill, the company’s regional manager said that 2013 was the turning point for Dallas after they experienced Texas’ worst West Nile Virus outbreak, “The city of Dallas had to issue a public announcement, asking people not to call 911 regarding mosquitoes. They were congesting the emergency phone lines and preventing the operators from assisting other emergencies. This is when Dallas became aware of the extent of their mosquito problem.” The company sees this new challenge as a great opportunity, “Unlike other cities in Texas that have defaulted to using ineffective and irresponsible nozzle misting systems, Dallas has yet to establish this inferior method as its de facto solution. Our goal is to introduce a new, affordable, and effective treatment that is considerate to the environment and can provide meaningful results without pesticide overexposure.”

The company sees growth expanding to other cities and beyond as its product is gaining highly favorable reviews. “What started as a method strictly designed for Austin has quickly gained traction outside of the original target area. Our expansion was triggered not from a desire to necessarily expand, but as a response to the requests of people outside of Austin for help with their mosquito problems.” Explained Jason Revill, “The reward is watching the expressions on people’s faces when they step outside immediately after the service is performed. They can’t believe the difference. I think only then do they realize the extent to which they have been constrained by their mosquito problem. Lifestyles change overnight. Kids go out and play without a thought of lathering up with sprays, pools get used, gardens resurrected, barbecues fire up, and outdoor party invitations get sent. That’s the ultimate effect of our product, we give people their properties back.”
